Romancing the Mobile Web: Questions to ask yourself in 2012, even if you don't own an iPhone
By Marc Carson · Tuesday March 13, 2012
1. Is my current website compatible with iPads, iPhones, and other mobile devices?
Every week I see menus that are broken on iPads, videos that don’t play on iPhones OR iPads, and entire sections or entire websites that don’t work on any mobile devices. Please get in touch and we can check out your website to make sure these features will work on mobile devices.
2. Do I have visitors using my website on these devices? (Hint: Probably.)
Most organizations should be moving in the mobile direction regardless. But if your website reports show that you currently have visitors on these devices, you should be moving fast to make sure you’re not losing them.
3. Do I have a plan to support those visitors going forward?
Just a tiny detail: By 2015, mobile web use will be bigger than desktop web use.
Compatibility with mobile devices will not be enough. It is crucial to speak their language by understanding how they are different from typical desktop users, and how they prefer your website to operate for them.
4. Do I know what it costs to develop a mobile website, or convert my current website to a mobile website?
Please contact me for an estimate. It’s free and easy, and you’ll have the information you need to budget for it.
The mobile web is not a toy or an extravagance. It is in the hands of the richest and the poorest, and it’s growing fast.
